FAQ Friday #56 – How are your boat name badges made?

FAQ Friday #56 – How are your boat name badges made?

The name badges we make are laser cut from hypalon boat fabric. If you have a hypalon boat, then it’s the normal process of using ToobBond to install them and if you have PVC tubes, you will need to prime the name patches with hypalon adhesive before using 2 part PVC adhesive to install them.

Once your name badge is designed (we can help with this too) and the proof is approved we set about making the logos.

The hypalon is sanded (on the back, so it's ready to be wiped and glued) and then each coloured piece of fabric is cut on a laser machine:

The logos are then de-weeded, which means that the parts that aren't needed are removed as demonstrated on the background part of the logo below:

The gaps are then filled in:

And the final stage is taping over the front of the logo so it stays together when being installed as a single piece.  The photo below shows you the taped front and sanded back of a custom made logo that you would receive:

If you are interested in logos for your RIB, here's the information we need:

  • Maximum size of the logo backing patch (height and width)
  • Preferred colours of the background and any lettering/details
  • If it's a text based name badge, let us know what font preferences you have
